OC Volleyball All-Star matches are Friday at Newport Harbor
The 35th annual Dave Mohs Memorial Orange County High School Volleyball All-Star festivities at Newport Harbor High on Friday will feature a dozen local seniors.
In the girls’ match, which starts at 6 p.m., Newport Harbor has outside hitter Cinnamon Sary, libero Tatum Norton and outside hitter Kasey Thompson, and from Corona del Mar are middle blocker Britton Taylor and libero Mary McKennon, and Sage Hill has middle blocker Zoe Kreitenberg.
The boys’ match, which is slated for 7:30 p.m., has four players from CdM, outside hitter Parker Brown, middle blocker Jack Reed, setter Joe Ctvrtlik and middle blocker Remy Lamons, and two from Newport Harbor, liberos Max Richley and Griffin Leggett.
Sary, Norton and Thompson led the Newport Harbor girls’ team to its second CIF Southern Section Division 1-AA title appearance in the last three seasons. Sary and Norton each earned All-CIF Southern Section Division 1-AA and the Daily Pilot Newport-Mesa Dream Team accolades, Sary as the Player of the Year.
Sary is bound for USC, Norton to Oregon and Thompson, a Dream Team member, to Hawaii Pacific.
Taylor and McKennon, both Dream Team picks, helped the CdM girls’ team reach its third CIF Southern Section title match in the last four seasons.
Taylor, an All-CIF Southern Section Division 1-A member, is heading to UC Santa Barbara and McKennon to UC Berkeley.
Kreitenberg lifted Sage Hill to the CIF Southern Section Division 4-AA title, the program’s second section crown. Kreitenberg, who is bound for Army, received All-CIF Southern Section Division 4-AA honors.
Brown, Reed, Ctvrtlik and Lamons are coming off their second straight CIF Southern Section Division 2 title appearance.
Brown hasn’t decided on whether to play at USC, UC Irvine, Pepperdine or Ohio State.
Ctvrtlik is bound for Stanford.
