Sage Hill takes down Hamilton

ANZA — The Sage Hill School baseball team traveled roughly 105 miles to get to its CIF Southern Section Division 6 wild-card game at Hamilton High in Anza.

Lightning coach Danny Gonzales left with a feeling of satisfaction after the long trip, nearly 5 hours total.

“It’s been a long ride, but it’s well worth it coming home with a W,” Gonzales said.

Sage Hill made it worthwhile with a 12-2 victory Tuesday.

Freshman pitcher Parker Reposa gave up only two hits in four shutout innings. He walked two with no strikeouts. Junior Max Strohman came in to pitch the final three innings, giving up an earned run, no walks, four hits and no strikeouts.

“I feel like we executed to perfection today and we came out firing,” Gonzales said. “We scored four runs in the first inning and that allowed our pitcher to go out there with a lot of confidence. Parker was very effective. He had up to 50-55 pitches. Strohman came in to shut the door.”

Gonzales said his Nos. 5, 6 and 7 batters produced nine runs batted in.

Sophomore Brett Dunleavy, the No. 5 batter, went three for four with four runs, three RBIs and a stolen base.

Junior catcher Ryan Fishel, the No. 7 batter, was hitless on three at-bats, but had four RBIs.

Strohman had two RBIs as the No. 6 batter.

Sage Hill (12-11-1), which earned an at-large bid as the Academy League’s fourth-place team, will play against Sierra Canyon in the first round Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Birmingham High in Van Nuys.

Sierra Canyon (13-4) is the Delphic League champion.

Hamilton ended its season at 15-7.
