Laguna wins its own tournament
The Laguna Beach Water Polo Club’s girls’ 14-and-Under team defended its title at the Laguna Beach Tournament by going undefeated. Laguna won four games at the event March 25.
Laguna started tourney play with an 8-2 win against Corona del Mar, then scored a 14-2 win over San Diego Shores. In the semifinals, Laguna took an impressive 10-2 win over a strong Commerce team to set up a finals showdown with So Cal.
In the division title game, Laguna, coached by Erich Fischer and Scott Baldridge, came away with a 7-4 victory.
“It was nice to see the girls play well and win their own tournament.” Fischer said. “However, they are going to have to continue working hard and improving if they want to stay on top of this extremely competitive 14-and-Under division.”
The 14U girls are: Bella Baldridge, Aria Fischer, Ally Jochim, Holly Parker, Maia Borisoff, Sophia Lucas, Hayley Evans, Katya Cox-Kruger, Angelique Begay, Gabi Beren and Natalie Selin.
