Newport Harbor 7, Los Alamitos 6 (nine innings)
NEWPORT BEACH — Shaun Vetrovec doubled in Jordan Desguin with one out in the bottom of the ninth, helping the Sailors complete a dramatic comeback in the Sunset League game Friday at Newport Harbor High.
Newport Harbor had been down, 6-1, in the fifth inning against Los Alamitos, which handed Huntington Beach its first loss of the season on Wednesday.
“If we play well, we can hang in there,” Newport Harbor Coach Patrick Murphy said. “Really proud of the kids today.”
Daniel Albert hit a two-run home run in the fifth to bring the Sailors within 6-3. Newport Harbor (3-7, 1-2 in league) then scored three times in the bottom of the seventh, capped by Vetrovec’s RBI single up the middle to the score at 6-6.
Vetrovec was three for five with two runs batted in. Taylor Parks threw five innings of scoreless relief to earn the win for the Sailors.

Corona del Mar 4, Irvine 1
CORONA DEL MAR — Andrew McCormack pitched a complete game, allowing six hits and improved to 4-0 for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League game Friday.
Aaron White (two for three), Max Stone (two for three, double), Hunter Heckendorn (two for three, two RBIs, double), Brent Lawson (one for three, double) also contributed for CdM (7-3, 2-1 in league). McCormack drove in a run, Ryan Banning was one for one with an RBI and Nick Roco was one for two.
The Sea Kings play at Woodbridge on Tuesday.

SANTA ANA — Mustangs’ pitcher Steven Macias gave up one hit and struck out three in four innings and improved to 4-0 after the Orange Coast League game Friday.
Levi Stillman, Andres Hernandez, Ben Beck all pitched one inning in relief for the Eagles.
Macias went two for four with two runs, one triple and one run batted in for Estancia (8-1, 3-0 in league). Alex Trancoso (two for four, one RBI), Jason Rodriguez (two for four, one RBI), Jackson Letterman (one for two, one run, two RBIS, triple), Matt Jarmacz (one for four, stolen base, run scored) and Beck (one for three, one run, two stolen bases) also contributed.
Estancia plays at unbeaten Calvary Chapel (8-0, 3-0) Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.

Trace Curet went one for two with a walk for the Mustangs, who had two hits in the Orange Coast League game Friday.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO - The Lightning fell short in the Academy League despite a three-run rally in the seventh inning.
Sage Hill dropped to 2-1 in league.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Chris Zadra had 15 kills as the Lightning swept their rivals in the Academy League match, 25-19, 25-17, 25-19, Friday at St. Margaret’s.
Coach Dan Thomassen said it was Sage Hill’s first win at St. Margaret’s since 2007.
Zadra also had three service aces and three blocks for Sage (12-9, 2-0 in league). Kent Kawaguchi had 33 assists and five aces, and Jack Burgi added eight kills.
Sage Hill plays at Crean Lutheran on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

NEWPORT BEACH — Kevin Rakestraw had eight kills to help the Sailors to a 25-16, 25-20, 25-14 Sunset League opening win Friday.
Clay Carr had seven kills, Peirce Moore had six kills and Max Richley had eight digs for Newport Harbor.

Corona del Mar 9, Mullen 7
CORONA DEL MAR — Jack Ortlieb scored four goals to help lead the Sea Kings to the nonleague win Friday.
Hunter Molnar had two goals and Michael Keasey had one goal and four assists for CdM, which overcame a 4-1 deficit.
Casey Mix and Connor Canale scored one goal each. Taylor Epp won 12 of 18 face-offs and won five ground balls.
On defense, Connor Cruse had three ground balls while Hugh Crance had four.
Goalie Michael Ortlieb made nine saves.

SOFTBALL
Estancia 18, Costa Mesa 0 (five innings)
COSTA MESA — Kelly Hinkle starred in the circle and at the plate for the Eagles in the seventh-place game of the Aztec Challenge Friday.
Hinkle pitched a one-hitter. She went three for three with a double and four runs batted in.
Estancia’s Rachelle Reynolds delivered a grand slam and a double. She finished three for three. Chloe Davis also hit a home run for the Eagle and went two for three with three RBIs.
Bryanna Vernon (three for three, double, two RBIs) and Gianna Guyot (two for three, two doubles, one RBI) also contributed for Estancia (3-10).
Nisha Degante doubled and was the only hit for Costa Mesa.
