Local climbers fare well in Arizona

Five members of the Surf City Climbers of ClimbX, an indoor climbing gym in Huntington Beach, participated Saturday and Sunday at the American Bouldering Series Youth Division Championship in Tucson, Ariz. Sara Griffith finished in third place in the Female A (ages 16-17) division and received an automatic bid to the Bouldering Nationals, March 2-4, in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Nathan Withey also had a top-10 finish and was ninth in the Male B (14-15) division. Withey’s older brother, Ryan, placed 16th in the Juniors (18-19) division. Noah Carr placed 16th in the Male B (14-15) division and Jessica Capalbo placed 21st in the Female B (14-15) division.

The local climbers compete in age and gender categories and qualified to compete through local, regional and divisional events.

ClimbX is looking to add new climbers, ages 9 and older, to its roster. Practices are held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and 4 to 6 p.m. Thursdays. The club also is offering a Youth Climbing Club, a program designed for novice climbers ages 6 and older, starting March 5. The youth club will is from 4 to 6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.

Edison golf tournament is Feb. 13

The Center for International Business and Communication Studies (CIBACS) program at Edison High is holding a benefit golf tournament Feb. 13 at Seacliff Country Club in Huntington Beach. Registration is still open for the event.

The cost of $195 includes a round of golf, lunch and dinner. The tournament includes hole-in-one, longest drive and closest-to-the-pin contests.
