CdM wins AYSO Area 11 Extra/Plus League

In a remarkable season for the Region 57 Extra/Plus program of Corona del Mar, the U10 boys’ team coached by Paul Murray and Tom Joyce topped its 22-team league with a 11-1-0 record.

The team’s only loss came from the talented group from the other side of Back Bay in Newport Beach.

Area 11 stretches from Long Beach in the north to Yorba Linda in the east on down to San Clemente in the south and provides a showcase for the elite players . Across all five age divisions for boys CdM won three titles and was second in two with a combined 52-4-1 record with 208 goals and only 34 goals against for the whole program.

The U10 boys’ offense unit led by Matt Duma scored 42 goals with magnificent support from Stephen McMillen, Dylan Murray, Omeed Abedi and Luke Joyce, while the defense unit led by Mark Redman supported by Brennan Carroll, Zane Weaver and Domenic Williams had the meanest record in the league conceding only 11 goals, contributing hugely to the eventual top placing.

This group will now compete in the Champions League Cup at Tustin Sports Park and hopefully onto the State Cup showing the strength of soccer in the area.
