Area squads capture championships
Fountain Valley Region 5’s Under-19 girls’ soccer team, Kiss My Grass, celebrated an undefeated season and winning the AYSO Area K championship Saturday after playing South Irvine to a 1-1 tie. The squad will represent Area K at the Section 11 playoffs Saturday and Sunday at Chapman Park in Garden Grove.
Fountain Valley begins the Section tournament Saturday with a pair of games. First, Kiss My Grass will play the Area R (San Diego) champion at 10:30 a.m. It’ll end the day with a 2:15 p.m. game against the Area Q (South Orange County) champion. On Sunday, the locals will face the Area Z (Los Angeles) champion at 10:30 a.m. The tournament title game is 2 p.m. Sunday.
Kiss My Grass team members are: Alicia Arnett, Vivien Bayless, Lauren Brose, Alex Capuano, Jordi Emrich, Desiree Fisher, Kalei Hauber, Mikayla Mager, Kendra Martinez, Michelle Mendoza, Alyx Merickel, Taylor Merickel, Jovanna Molina, Megan Molina, Cheyanne Murrietta, Kaitlyn Ramirez, Jenny Soliman, Brittney Stevens and Cami Stevens.

Huntington Beach U12 girls win tourney title: In its second fall tournament, Got Skeelz?, a 12-and-Under team from Huntington Beach Girls Softball, won the Laguna Niguel Pumpkin Classic Tournament held Oct. 22-23 at Laguna Niguel.
Got Skeelz? defeated teams from Mission Viejo, Newport Mesa, San Juan Capistrano and Irvine in pool play. In the title game, Got Skeelz? defeated Rancho Trabuco, 13-5, in seven innings.
Team Got Skeelz? Is: Makayla Nieto, Greta Wessel, Samantha Ritchie, Sophia Peterson, Cailyn Chang, Sage Malvin, Danika McKee, Valerie Rudd, Ashley Drake, Amanda Valle, Kari Lane and Kendall Henshheid. The team is led by manager Craig Peterson and coaches Chris Malvin and Tim Nieto.
