Bakkila, Cernius, Radeva advance to semifinals

SEAL BEACH — Newport Harbor High singles players Blake Bakkila, Natalie Cernius and Annie Radeva advanced to the semifinals after winning twice Thursday at Seal Beach Tennis Center.
The Sailors doubles team of Robin Young and Christina Young, as well as the duo of Mindy Wheeler and Megan Bathen are also in the semifinals after two wins.
Bakilla, the No. 2 seed, won her first-round match, 8-0, then scored a 6-1, 6-1 win in the quarterfinals. She’ll play against Cernius in Friday’s semifinals.
Cernius, the No. 3 seed, won, 8-1, in the first round, and 6-3, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
Radeva, the No. 4 seed, won, 8-1, in first round, and 6-2, 6-4 in the quarterfinals. She’ll play top-seeded Sarah Stadfelt of Edison in the semifinals.
The Young sisters, the top-seeded doubles team, won in the first round, 8-1. They won, 6-1, 6-1, in the quarterfinals. They will play the fourth-seeded team from Los Alamitos.
Wheeler and Bathen, the No. 2-seeded team, won, 8-0, in the first round. They won, 6-2, 6-2, in the quarterfinals. They play the fifth seed from Los Al in the semifinals.
Newport Harbor’s Holly Hovnanian and Kaitlyn Cosenza, the No. 3 seed, won, 8-3, in the first round and then lost in the quarterfinals to the fifth seed from Los Al, 6-3, 4-6, 10-7.
