Breakdown: Friday’s game is the Orange Coast League opener for both schools, and homecoming for Costa Mesa … Costa Mesa is coming off a bye, while Godinez lost to Segerstrom, 42-21, last week … Godinez defeated Costa Mesa, 42-41, in triple overtime in last year’s league opener … The loss proved to hurt the Mustangs, who went 2-3 in league and didn’t make the CIF playoffs while Godinez went 3-2 and earned its first playoff berth in program history … This is Godinez’s fourth varsity season … Costa Mesa, which has won four straight games since opening with a loss at Buena Park, is averaging 41.2 points per game.
