Youth Scene: Seventh-graders win title

The Corona del Mar seventh-grade boys’ basketball team beat Ensign, 42-15, to capture the Coastal Athletic League regular-season title.

Both teams came in with a 5-0 record.

Despite missing top player Garrett White, who was home with the flu, CdM still outplayed Ensign.

CdM was led by the powerful inside game of Matt Ctvrtlik and tenacious pressing defense played by Sam Kobrine, Nick Premer and Karl Donovan.

Tommy Winkle and Ford Secrist were also key players in the victory. Other players contributing were Ben Brooks, Ryan Cousins, Jordan Hauser, Kevin McCarthy and Stephen Von Der Ahe.

Brian Chelf was injured an unable to play.
