High School Roundup: Eagles shut out El Dorado

PLACENTIA — Senior midfielder Jackie Freiberger scored the Eagles’ lone goal in a season opener Tuesday.
The goal came in the 35th minute on a corner kick from Heather Flores. El Dorado had beaten Estancia, 5-0, in the past two years.
Goalkeeper Alex Mera made four saves in the shutout.
Los Amigos 3, Sage Hill 2
FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Meg Crade and Rannah Dabiri scored an unassisted goal each for the Lightning in its season opener Tuesday.
Goalie Page Krueger recorded five saves for Sage Hill (0-1), which trailed, 3-0, before Crade scored in the 48th minute. Dabiri’s goal came in the 68th minute.
The Lightning play host to Calvary Chapel Downey Friday at 3:15 p.m.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Estancia 45, Santa Ana 22
CORONA DEL MAR — Kassie Stratton and Yesenia Maldonado scored 15 points each for the Eagles in their season-opener and first-round game of the Corona del Mar Tip-Off Tournament Tuesday.
Jenny Boldizar added 11 points, as she hit three three-pointers in the first half. Freshman guard Celia Duran had six points for Estancia (1-0), which plays against Westminster today at 5:30 p.m. at CdM.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Costa Mesa 53, Bolsa Grande 48
WESTMINSTER — Junior guard Jake Comer finished with 12 points and seven rebounds on Tuesday, helping the Mustangs reach the consolation semifinals at the La Quinta Classic.
Costa Mesa (1-1) plays the winner of Rancho Alamitos-Laguna Beach on Thursday at 8 p.m.
Jordan Walden contributed 12 points for the Mustangs.
Sage Hill 62, Arrowhead Christian 31
NEWPORT COAST – Stefano Nark had 13 points and five assists for the Lightning in its season opener Tuesday night
Mark Loper scored 12 points and Nick Ramming added 10 points for Sage Hill (1-0), which plays at Avalon Friday at 7:30 p.m.
GIRLS’ WATER POLO
Rancho Alamitos 16, Estancia 4
COSTA MESA — Sophomore Ilene Umansky scored three goals for the Eagles in a nonleague match Tuesday.
Danielle Ridge finished with 12 steals for the Eagles.
Estancia (1-2) plays host to Palm Desert on Thursday at 3 p.m.
WRESTLING
Newport Harbor 64, Santa Ana Valley 9
SANTA ANA – Ryan Cerrato, a 189-pound senior, recorded a pin in the Sailors’ season opener Tuesday.
Other Newport Harbor winners that pinned their opponents included David Wadleigh III (119 pounds), Anibal Cruz (140), Justin Craft (160) and Abraham Aguilar (heavyweight).
Jesus Sotelo (135) won by major decision.
