COSTA MESA — Orange Coast College sophomore guard Amanda Deal scored a game-high 25 points, including six three-pointers, but the host Pirates were defeated, 71-63, by Mt. San Jacinto in the title game of the Thanksgiving Classic on Sunday.

OCC (4-2) led, 40-30, at halftime, but made just eight of 35 field-goal attempts (22.9%) after intermission, including just five of 21 three-point tries.

Deal who added four steals and two assists was an all-tournament honoree.

Sophomore Samantha Hansen had 15 points, four rebounds and four steals before fouling out having played just 21 minutes, while freshman Sami Little had five points, a team-best seven rebounds and three steals for the Pirates. Little was also named all-tournament.

Tournament MVP Terri Todecheene had 18 points to lead the winners (4-2), making nine of 15 from then field.

Mt. San Jacinto shot 45.8% from the field and made 13 of 15 foul shots.

OCC was five of six from the free-throw line.

OCC won the turnover battle, 23-14, but was outrebounded, 49-35.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

IRVINE — Senior guard Jade Smith-Williams scored 20 points and junior Mikah Maly-Karros had 15 points and 10 rebounds to help the host Anteaters earn their third straight victory in the nonconference contest Monday.

Jacquelyn Marshall added 16 points, making six of 11 field-goal attempts, including four of eight from three-point range.

Smith-Williams made all eight of her foul shots to help UCI (3-3) finish 16 of 18 from the free-throw line.

Wyoming’s 18 turnovers were eight more than UCI’s.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Citrus tournament

GLENDORA — Orange Coast College won one of three games and finished fourth at the tournament completed Sunday at Citrus College.

The Pirates (2-5) defeated Chaffey, 68-57, in the tournament opener, before falling to El Camino, 68-66, and East Los Angeles, 67-58.

Chris Baxter had 14 points, while Michael Lambert and Jake Fedro each added 13 for OCC against Chaffey.

Will Ligon had 23 points to pace OCC against El Camino in the championship semifinals. John Russo had 17 points and Fedro added 15.

In the third-place game against East L.A., Russo and Williams had 11 points each.

The Pirates play their home opener against Los Angeles Harbor, Friday at 7 p.m.

MEN’S WATER POLO

UC Irvine 16,

UC Santa Barbara 12

STANFORD — Senior Griffin Lerman scored five goals to pace the Anteaters in the fifth-place game of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament on Sunday at Stanford University.

Lerman earned all-tournament honors for the Anteaters, who complete their season 19-9.

Senior Tom Kruip had three goals for the Anteaters, who received two goals each from senior Doug Lindsey and freshman Mitch Wise.

Senior Matt Johnson had seven saves for the ‘Eaters.

No. 2-seeded USC defeated No. 4-seeded Stanford, 8-7, in triple overtime in the title game Sunday.

USC and Cal represent the MPSF in the four-team NCAA Championship, Saturday and Sunday at Cal.

Cal edged UCLA, 10-9, in the third-place game.
