Laguna youth skaters fare well

More than 10 Laguna Beach downhill skateboarders were part of an international field of competitors last weekend at the International Gravity Sports Assn. U.S. National Championships in San Dimas. Following two days of time trials and qualifying heats, the five-racer finals of the Junior 1 Division (ages 8-13) produced some of the most exciting competition of the event by racing shoulder-to-shoulder toward the finish.

The Junior 1 Division final’s field was made up of members of the Laguna Beach Alpha Groms (Team LBAG), with Chance Gaul taking first place. Second place went to Wyatt Gibbs, Jake Fast was third, Roger Jones was fourth and Tanner Flagstad was fifth. The five, all age 13, attend Thurston Middle School.
