Jock Competes today
UC Irvine sophomore Charles Jock competes in the NCAA Track and Field Championships today at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
Jock, the Big West Conference Athlete of the Year in men’s track, runs in the semifinals of the 800 meters at 4:30 p.m. Eight runners will advance to the final set for Friday at 5:40 p.m.
Jock’s semifinal race today is scheduled to be webcast at NCAA.com. Friday’s final will be shown on the CBS College Sports Network.
He set the school record in the 800 three times this season. Initially, he broke three-time Olympian Steve Scott’s school mark in winning the event with a time of 1:47.46 at the Cal/Nevada Championships Mar. 28 at UCLA’s Drake Stadium. That effort earned Jock Athlete of the Meet honors.
He broke his own record in winning the 800 in 1:46.93 at the Big West Championships May 15 at Northridge. Jock also anchored UCI’s first-place 4x400 relay (3:09.43) at the league meet.
Jock set the record a third time in winning his quarterfinal heat in 1:46.67 at the NCAA West Regional in Austin, Tex., May 28.
