Wilson joins UCI women’s basketball staff
Justin Wilson has joined the UC Irvine women’s basketball coaching staff as an assistant, Anteaters coach Tamara Inoue announced last month.
Wilson was previously an assistant at the University of the Pacific, where he headed up all junior college recruiting and scouting efforts for the Tigers, and was also director of the program’s summer camps.
On the court, he worked primarily on defense and the development of the team’s point guards.
Prior to his stint at Pacific, Wilson spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Chico State. During his tenure, the Wildcats made three straight appearances in the West Regional Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Division II Final Four in 2006. He was responsible for the coaching and development of the post players, while also serving as the team’s video coordinator.
In addition, Wilson has extensive experience at the prep and youth levels, coaching a variety of age groups for AAU basketball, and spending time as an assistant at Chico High.
“I have known Justin for over 10 years now and I am thrilled that he has accepted the position to be a part of our staff,” Inoue said in a statement. “He has an exceptional defensive mind and has a proven track record in player skill development at all positions. Not only is the basketball floor important but he is very passionate and committed to working with our student-athletes to see them succeed in their life journey when they graduate from UCI.”
Wilson earned a bachelor’s degree in social science and his teaching credential (2006) from Chico State.
