High School Baseball: Sage Hill’s Super Academy League MVP
Sage Hill School sophomore pitcher Brett Super took home the Academy League MVP award in baseball, after lifting his team to its first undefeated league championship and first quarterfinal appearance in the CIF Southern Section Division 6 playoffs in five years.
Super is one of four players from the Lightning (20-7, 12-0 in league) to earn first-team recognition. The others are junior left-hander Conner Bock, an outfielder, first baseman and pitcher, senior Parker Reposa, a third baseman and pitcher, and senior Kellen Ochi, a shortstop and closer. The foursome keyed Sage Hill’s first league title run in six years and tied a single-season record for overall wins.
Sage Hill, the top seed, lost to Sherman Oaks Buckley, 7-5, in the quarterfinals at home.
Super went 9-0 in with a 0.88 earned-run average, to go with 104 strikeouts and 31 walks in 72 innings. The right-hander threw a perfect game and a no-hitter.
Super hit .288 with one home run and 25 runs batted in. He had five doubles, one triple and scored 17 runs.
Bock, a three-time first-team selection, batted .333 with six homers and 34 RBIs. He had a .717 slugging percentage and a .481 on-base percentage.
Bock recorded four triples and four doubles, scored 31 runs and was successful on 16 of 19 stolen-base attempts.
As a pitcher, Bock was 4-3 with a 2.37 ERA. He struck out 47 in 381/3 innings.
Reposa hit .280 with two home runs and 20 RBIs, to go with five doubles and two triples. He walked 23 times and was hit by a pitch three times.
Reposa, a two-time first-team pick, was 12 for 16 in stolen-base attempts.
Reposa, a right-hander, finished 5-3 with a 1.11 ERA, striking out 30 in 38 innings.
Ochi batted .312 with 14 RBIs, five doubles and 18 runs. He swiped 18 bases in 19 tries.
The two-time first-team selection went 1-1 with a 3.30 ERA and five saves. He struck out 16 in 231/3 innings.
Sage Hill junior catcher Tobias Bush and junior second baseman Cole Tait were second-team picks.
Sophomore center fielder Jack Pelc received honorable mention.
