Loomis claims second AVP crown

Ty Loomis, a Laguna Beach resident who played college volleyball at UC Irvine, earned his second career victory on the Assn. of Volleyball Professionals beach tour on Sunday at the San Francisco Open.

Loomis, 38, and partner Maddison McKibbin, the No. 5-seeded entry, defeated top-seeded Billy Allen and Stafford Slick 24-22, 21-19 in a 63-minute final.

Loomis, whose previous AVP win came in 2009 in Brooklyn with Casey Patterson, and McKibbin split $15,000.

Huntington Beach resident Reid Priddy teamed with Ricardo Santos to finish third and split $7,000.

Priddy and Santos, the No. 7-seeded duo, upset No. 2-seeded Jeremy Casebeer and John Mayer to reach the semifinals.

The next stop on the AVP Tour is Hermosa Beach, July 20-23.
