UCI’s Klatt to coach Team USA at World University Games
UC Irvine women’s water polo coach Dan Klatt has been named head coach of the USA women’s team that will compete in the World University Games, Aug. 19-30 in Taipei, Taiwan.
In a change from recent competitions that saw collegiate champions represent the United States, this USA national team will be selected at a later date from a pool of recently graduated college athletes. Klatt, who guided the Anteaters to a Big West Conference championship and berth in the NCAA Tournament in 2017, was an assistant coach with the USA women’s team that won consecutive Olympic gold medals in 2012 and 2016. The Big West Coach of the Year has been involved in the USA Water Polo ODP pipeline as a coach since 2005.
Team USA will compete in Group B alongside Australia, Argentina, France, Italy, and Greece. Group A consists of Canada, Russia, Hungary, Japan, Great Britain and New Zealand.
