Alaluf, Burwell honored for Pacifica Christian girls’ volleyball

After guiding the Pacifica Christian Orange County girls’ volleyball team to its first CIF Southern Section playoff appearance, juniors Maddy Alaluf and Breck Burwell have received All-Express Gold League honors.

The Tritons went 13-11-1 overall and finished 3-7 to place fourth in league. They received an at-large selection into the Division 10 playoffs. Pacifica Christian advanced to the quarterfinals, falling at home to Victorville Excelsior Charter.

Alaluf was named to the second team. The left-hander doubled as a setter and an opposite. She had 40 service aces, 38 kills and a .241 hitting percentage.

Burwell, a middle blocker, produced 38 aces, 34 kills and a .244 hitting percentage. She was an honorable mention.

This was Pacifica Christian’s second season with varsity sports.

Keara Rutz, a junior opposite from league champion Capistrano Valley Christian (27-5, 9-1 in league), was named the Express Gold League MVP.
