High School Roundup: Laguna Beach girls’ water polo easily improves to 6-0
Freshman Molly Renner scored three goals as the Laguna Beach High girls’ water polo team beat Riverside King 14-1 on Friday in a nonleague home game.
Seniors Sophia Lucas, Isabel Riches and Alex Peros all scored twice for the Breakers (6-0), the top-ranked team in CIF Southern Section Division 1 and 2. Alana Evans, Claire Kelly, Evan Tingler, Morgan Van Alphen and Kyla Whitelock added one goal each.
Thea Walsh made eight saves and Quinn Winter nine saves for Laguna Beach, which is the top seed in next week’s Holiday Cup tournament. The Breakers play Rancho Bernardo in their tournament opener Dec. 29 at 8:30 a.m. at Newport Harbor High.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Edison 61, Aliso Niguel 59: Senior guard David Atencio scored 21 points for the Chargers in the Orange County North/South Challenge game Friday at Tesoro High.
Edison is now 6-4.
Pacifica Christian Orange County 68, Sage Hill 42: Sophomore guard Dominick Harris had 19 points for the Tritons in Friday’s nonleague game at Pacifica Christian.
Josh Sims had 16 points, and Josh Griffith added 13 points and 12 rebounds for Pacifica Christian (5-6), ranked No. 9 in CIF Southern Section Division 5AAA.
Sage Hill fell to 3-7.
Laguna Beach 69, Upland 58: Senior Blake Burzell had 28 points for the Breakers in Friday’s nonleague game at Laguna Beach High.
Grady Morgan and Nolan Naess each had 10 points for Laguna Beach (11-2), ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division 3AA. Charlie Rounaghi scored eight.

BOYS’ SOCCER
Estancia 2, Mission Viejo 1: Seniors Jose Jimenez and Oscar Castaneda scored for the Eagles in Friday’s nonleague game at Mission Viejo High.
Estancia improved to 4-1-2.

GIRLS’ SOCCER
Saddleback Valley Christian 4, Pacifica Christian Orange County 1: Alissa Smith had the goal for the Tritons in their San Joaquin League opener Friday at Vanguard University.
Buze Harrison had the assist for Pacifica Christian (5-1, 0-1 in league).
