High School Girls’ Water Polo Roundup: Laguna Beach beats El Toro in opener
Senior Sophia Lucas and freshman Nicole Struss each scored four goals as the Laguna Beach High girls’ water polo team beat El Toro 20-4 in its season opener Tuesday at home.
Lucas added two assists and three steals for the Breakers, the defending CIF Southern Section Division 1 champions. They also got three goals from Alex Peros, and two goals each from Evie Laptin, Molly Renner and Morgan Van Alphen.
Rachael Carver, Bryn Giofreddi and Alana Evans (five steals) all had one goal for the Breakers. Quinn Winter made eight saves in goal, and Thea Walsh had five.
Laguna Beach plays host to La Cañada on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
Newport Harbor 11, Coronado 4
Senior Jessica Lynch scored four goals for the host Sailors in their season opener Tuesday.
Sarah Barker, Karis Couch, Kaela Whelan, Emily Cantu, Kili Skibby, Annie Rankin and Olivia Giolas all added one goal each for the Sailors.
Erin Ross made five saves, and Emma Kennedy had four.
Newport Harbor plays host to Long Beach Wilson on Dec. 5.
