High School Girls’ Basketball Roundup: Huntington Beach picks up first win
Freshman Alyssa Real paced the Huntington Beach High girls’ basketball team with nine points and four assists, as the Oilers beat host Woodbridge 38-26 to pick up their first win of the season on Wednesday.
The Oilers (1-1) dropped their opener 40-31 to Tesoro, which won its pool to move on in the winner’s bracket of the South Coast Classic.
Against the Warriors (0-2), Meghan McIntyre had eight points, and guard Marisa Tanga added six points.
Huntington Beach will be back in action on Friday night. The Oilers will take on El Dorado at 6:30 p.m. at Woodbridge High.
San Juan Hills 56, Corona del Mar 45
Junior Tatiana Bruening had a team-high 15 points for the host Sea Kings (0-2) in a CdM Tip-off Tournament game on Wednesday night.
Tia Grippo had 14 points and Meghan Jordan added 13 points.
Bruening, Grippo and Jordan got to the free-throw line a lot, converting 17 of 23 attempts.
CdM trailed 26-23 at halftime, but San Juan Hills stretched its lead to 40-30 after the third quarter.
Palos Verdes 55, Sage Hill 25
Sophomore Joyce Jogwe had eight points with a pair of three-pointers for the Lightning (1-1) in a CdM Tip-off Tournament game on Wednesday.
Sage Hill’s Emily Elliott had seven points and five rebounds. Trinity Cha scored five points, with all of them coming in the second quarter.
