Stephanie Engle, formerly an assistant coach and player at Chapman University, was named Golden West College softball coach earlier this month.

Engle, a Huntington Beach resident, spent four years as an assistant at Chapman, for which she played two seasons and produced a career .498 slugging percentage.

As an assistant coach, Engle helped the Panthers make two conference tournament appearances, working with infielders and hitters, while enhancing the strength and conditioning program.

After playing two seasons at Mt. San Antonio College, she hit .346 with five home runs and 44 RBIs in two seasons as Chapman’s cleanup hitter.

“I am excited to be a part of the Golden West family and would like to thank the Athletic Director, Albert Gasparian, for giving me the job of a lifetime,” Engle said in a statement.

Engle has a bachelor’s degree in public relations and advertising, and also earned a master’s degree in sports management from Long Beach State.

She takes over for Stesha Brazil, who stepped down after one season in which the Rustlers were 0-30, 0-19 in the Orange Empire Conference, and canceled their last two games due to a shortage of eligible players.

Golden West has finished last in conference the last four seasons and is on a 42-game losing streak. It has lost its last 35 conference games.
