CdM’s Damon earns one of Pacific Coast League’s top awards
Corona del Mar High senior center back Jay Damon received the Pacific Coast League Defensive MVP for leading the Sea Kings to an unbeaten league boys’ soccer title.
Damon’s presence allowed CdM (15-4-4, 8-0-2) to claim its first outright league championship in Coach George Larsen’s five seasons in charge. The Sea Kings won their final seven league matches, four via shutout, and only gave up four goals during the span.
Senior forward John O’Connor, senior defensive midfielder Max Premer and senior midfielder Liam Stimpson each made the first team for the Sea Kings, who reached the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 3 playoffs. Corona del Mar lost at Anaheim, 2-1, in overtime.
O’Connor led the Sea Kings with 12 goals and seven assists.
Premer finished with seven goals and one assist.
Stimpson had two goals and five assists.
Corona del Mar senior forward Jake Kim and senior defender Daniel McCabe are second-team members.
University’s Mel McCurrie is the Pacific Coast League Offensive MVP.
