Three more commit for Newport girls’ polo

Newport Harbor High girls’ water polo players Rachel Whitelegge, Kate Pipkin and Isabel Leveque have all committed to play college water polo, the program announced this week.

Whitelegge is headed to UCLA, Pipkin to Indiana University and Leveque to Marist College in New York.

Whitelegge and Pipkin are returning starters this year for the Sailors. Whitelegge, a defender, had 24 goals for Harbor last year and led the team with 53 steals. She was a second-team All-Sunset League, third-team All-CIF Southern Section Division 1 and Daily Pilot Newport-Mesa Dream Team honoree.

Pipkin had 42 goals last year, third on the team, and was fourth on the team with 19 steals. She earned Newport-Mesa Dream Team laurels.

Whitelegge will join her good friend, Sailors goalie Carlee Kapana, at UCLA. Kapana comitted to the Bruins on Sunday.

The Newport Harbor girls’ water polo program now has five college commitments, as senior center Chanel Schilling has committed to UC San Diego.
