High School Roundup: NHHS girls’ golf takes third in Sunset

GIRLS’ GOLF

Newport Harbor 214, Edison 225

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Grace Ferrell shot one-over-par 37 to earn medalist honors for the Sailors and led them to a third-place finish in the Sunset League Thursday at Mile Square Golf Course.

Tehya Corona (41), Madison Fernandez (44), Nicole Nesbitt (43) and Jackie DeFeo (49) also scored for Newport Harbor (8-6, 6-4 in league).

The Sailors qualifed for the CIF Southern Section Southern Division Team tournament at Lakewood Country Club on Nov. 2.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Corona del Mar def. Irvine

Ashley Humphreys had five kills for the Sea Kings, who won the Pacific Coast League match 25-10, 25-13, 25-16 at home on Thursday.

Jessie Harris,Raleigh Garner and Sydney Alacano added four kills each, while Alexa Bonanno and Christina Davenport had three kills each for CdM (15-1, 5-0 in league).

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Costa Mesa 18, Saddleback 0

Caitlin Wase and Hannah Mellies both won 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 in singles for the Mustangs in the Orange Coast League match on Thursday.

In doubles, Gianna Valdez and Princess Castellano swept 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 for Costa Mesa (9-8, 3-5 in league).

Corona del Mar 15, Beckman 3

IRVINE — Senior Siena Sharf swept in singles for the Sea Kings in Thursday’s Pacific Coast League match at Beckman High.

Freshmen Shaya Northrup and Bella McKinney won twice in doubles before they were subbed out.

CdM, ranked No. 3 in CIF Southern Section Division 1, improved to 13-1, 7-0 in league.

Estancia 13, Godinez 5

Senior co-captains Eden Steel and Kinley Ohland swept in singles for the Eagles in Thursday’s Orange Coast League match at home.

Ohland won her three sets 6-0, 6-0, 6-1 for Estancia (13-4, 7-1 in league).

Newport Harbor 16, Huntington Beach 2

Jenn Kingsley swept at No. 1 singles for the Sailors, who remained undefeated in the Sunset League on Thursday.

Anna Burke and Kendall Cosenza swept at No. 1 doubles, Taryn Anderson and Eva Newsom swept at No. 3 doubles and Hannah Blower won two sets at No. 3 singles for Newport Harbor (14-1, 7-0 in league).

The Sailors play at Los Alamitos on Tuesday.
