Briefs: Lions’ Lopp lauded

Vanguard University sophomore forward Madison Lopp, who scored four goals in a Golden State Athletic Conference win over San Diego Christian on Oct. 6, has been named GSAC Offensive Player of the Week in women’s soccer..

Lopp leads the No. 15-ranked Lions with 21 points and is tied for GSAC lead with nine goals.

Vanguard entered the week 9-3, 3-2 in conference.

A momentous week that included a home upset of then No. 1-ranked Biola helped Vanguard dominate the Golden State Athletic Conference player of the week awards in women’s volleyball.

Senior Stephanie Flores was named Attacker of the Week, while junior Kelly Dalrymple was Setter of the Week and freshman libero Rebecca Lowden was Defender of the Week.

Dalrymple had 22 assists in the four-set win over Biola on Oct. 6. She had 39 assists in a four-set win over Hope International on Saturday.

Lowden, who leads the conference in digs (5.14 per set), had 22 against Biola and 19 against Hope International.

Flores, a 6-foot-1 middle blocker, hit .667 with six kills and added three block assists against Biola. Against Hope, she had eight kills (.438) with one solo stuff and seven block assists.

No. 9-ranked Vanguard entered the week 15-4, 8-0 in conference play.
