UCI player repeats for honor

UC Irvine senior Gor Kirakosyan was named Big West Conference Offensive Player of the Week in men’s soccer for the second straight week.

The midfielder has run his goal-scoring streak to four games after netting UCI’s opening goal in each game of the UNLV Rebel Classic. UCI topped host UNLV, 4-2, on Sept. 26 and topped Utah Valley, 2-1, in double overtime on Sept. 28.

Kirakosyan has five goals and 12 points, both tied for the team lead, and has been one of the driving forces pushing the Anteaters to an 8-0-1 mark through nonconference play.

It’s his third overall award, and the team’s third on the season.

He and the No. 3-ranked Anteaters opened Big West play Thursday witha 1-1 tie at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. UCI is at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday at 7 p.m.
