Done wins NB Surf Championships

Victor Done, a 2009 Newport Harbor High graduate, took home the top prize in the Open Men’s Division (ages 19 and up) at the Arnette City of Newport Beach Surf Championships at 54th Street on Sunday.

Kaleigh Gilchrist, a former Newport Harbor standout in water polo, won the Open Women’s Division (all ages) in the two-day event presented by Jack’s Surfboards and Lost Clothing.

The weather and surfing conditions were ideal for the competitors in the 26th annual event put on by the City of Newport Beach and Darren Brilhart of Brillo Productions.

Done beat out Parker Cohn. Nate Dorman finished third and Daniel Shea was fourth.

Gilchrist finished ahead of Costa Mesa’s Meah Collins. Juli Hernandez was third and Keisha Maghanoy fourth.

Pat Downey won the Hall of Fame Division (ages 50 and up).

Todd Miller claimed first in the Legends Division (40 and up).

Eric Vallely won the Masters Division (30 and up).

Sam Neiger of Corona del Mar High won the High School Division (ages 15-18).

Griffen Foy won the Middle School Division (12-14).

Taj Miller was the champion in the Elementary Division (11 and under).
