Surfing: Conlogue regains top spot on tour

Surfer Courtney Conlogue, a Sage Hill School alumna, is back on top of the women’s World Championship Tour after winning the Cascais Women’s Pro in Portugal on Sunday.

Conlogue defeated Lakey Peterson in the final and overtook Carissa Moore for the top spot in the WCT rankings after winning her third event of the year. There are two events left on the tour that heads to France to the Roxy Pro on Oct. 6.

According to worldsurfleague.com, Peterson opened with a smooth series of carves on her frontside and an immediate keeper score — a 7.17. Conlogue on the other hand looked hesitant, logging minimal scores to start. But she found her rhythm at the halfway point, earning an excellent-range score (8.00 and above) to narrow the gap. With fewer than five minutes to go, she picked up speed on another left, throwing as much spray as she could. The performance earned her another excellent score, and the final lead change for the win.
