UC Irvine Invitational
UC Irvine opened the 2015 season by winning the title at the Anteater Recreation Center Fields on Saturday.
The Anteaters had five runners in the top 13 to total 31 points and win its home meet for the first time since 2010. Izzak Mireles led UCI with a fourth-place time of 25 minutes 27.70 seconds over the 8,000-meter course. Isaiah Thompson (seventh in 25:30.27), David Aguilar (eighth in 25:36.76), Branden Randall (10th in 25:41.64) and Nolan Del Valle (13th in 25:49.01) also keyed UCI’s victory.
UCI’s Eric Lawver was 17th in 26:10.65.
Long Beach State was second with 35 points and UC San Diego (81) was third. John Gilbertson, an unattached runner, was the individual winner in 24:46.73.
UCI is back in action Sept. 19 in the Mustang Invitational, hosted by The Master’s College, at Central Park in Santa Clarita.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
UC Irvine Invitational
UC Irvine senior Courtney Sharar finished 34th to pace the Anteaters on Saturday at the Anteater Recreation Center Fields.
Sharar finished the 5,000-meter course in 19 minutes, 20.47 seconds to help UCI finish ninth as a team. Yulissa Mendoza (37th in 19:24.67), Megan Mirkhanian (42nd in 19:29.29) and Alice Yang (53rd in 19:44.78) also competed for the Anteaters.
Aminat Olowora of Southwestern College won the individual title with a time of 17:14.82.
The Anteaters return to action in the Mustang Challenge Sept. 19, hosted by The Master’s College at Central Park in Santa Clarita.
