Breakdown: The Mustangs, coming off a season-opening 15-10 upset victory against Northwood, look to improve to 2-0 for the first time since 2000 ... The victory against Northwood, Costa Mesa’s first in a season opener since 2001, also was the Mustangs’ first win against a Pacific Coast League team since joining the Orange Coast League in 2006 ... Santiago opened its season last week with a 44-7 loss to Sunny Hills ... Santiago finished 8-4 and 2-3 in the Garden Grove League a year ago, upsetting Estancia, 13-9, in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Southern Division playoffs before falling to El Modena, 41-20 ... The Cavaliers beat Costa Mesa, 16-13 in overtime, in the teams’ nonleague game in 2014, one of two overtime losses for the Mustangs during last year’s 2-8 season ... Costa Mesa has played Santiago in its second game of the season every year since 2010, and has gone 3-2 in those games.
