Pacifica Christian hires two coaches
Pacifica Christian High, a new private high school in Newport Beach that opens on Aug. 25, has named Megan Glennie as its girls’ volleyball coach and Valerie Sizemore as its cross-country and track and field coach.
Glennie is a former indoor volleyball player at California Baptist University in Riverside and sand volleyball player at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Ariz. While at Cal Baptist, the Lancers went a combined 95-35, made the quarterfinals of the NAIA National Tournament and claimed the National Christian College Athletic Assn. National Championship.
During her senior year at Grand Canyon, Glennie’s team finished with a No. 15 ranking in the American Volleyball Coaches Assn. Sand Volleyball poll.
Glennie has served as an assistant at Valley Center High in 2010 and has coached club volleyball.
Sizemore competed in cross-country and track and field at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, helping the school to two Conference USA team titles. She was also a four-time Conference USA Scholar-Athlete Award recipient.
Pacifica Christian will have 50-60 students in its first year that will only be ninth- and 10th-graders.
“We are thrilled to have Megan and Valerie join the Pacifica Athletics Department,” said Brandon Gonzalez, Pacifica Christian’s athletic director, in a press release. “Both coaches bring the experience, competitiveness, and mindset of a Division 1 collegiate athlete, as well as the passion and determination to develop young men and women of character. Their desire to develop well-rounded student-athletes, along with their vision to develop competitive athletic programs, are traits the Pacifica community and its student-athletes will benefit from for years to come.
