Lightning owns SoCal Showcase

The Newport Lightning Basketball Club’s 9-and-under/third-grade team recently won the championship of the SoCal Ultimate Showcase at the Next Level Sports Complex in Garden Grove.

The NLBC 9U team beat Rockfish, Baby Flyers and WC Dream in pool play to get into the championship game to face Baby Flyers.

Down five at halftime, NLBC came back to win the game, 26-22, and claim the title.

Sanjay Patel, Michael Gurka, Dylan Li and Tyler Li led the team in scoring while Connor Kelly, Jordan Stucki, Carter Healy, Brendan Jennings and Ayden Ziegler led the team in rebounding and defense throughout the weekend.

The team is coached by Scott Stucki.
