April Ross and Jake Gibb both cashed in on the final day of the World Series of Beach Volleyball on Sunday at Marine Green Park in Long Beach.

Ross, a Costa Mesa resident and Newport Harbor High product, teamed with Jennifer Kessy to defeat the Brazilian duo of Taiana Lima and Talita Antunes, 15-21, 21-18, 17-15, in the final of the four-team women’s World Series Cup. The Brazilians are the top-ranked team in the world.

Gibb, a Costa Mesa resident, and Huntington Beach resident Casey Patterson defeated Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Janis Smedins from Latvia, 22-20, 21-11, in the men’s final of the World Series Cup.

Gibb and Patterson, who finished fourth in the Federation Internationale de Volleyball Grand Slam event that concluded Saturday, defeated the Grand Slam event winners, Phil Dalhausser and Sean Rosenthal, 21-19, 21-17, in the World Series Cup semifinals to avenge a loss to their American rivals in the Grand Slam event semifinals.

Ross-Kessy and Gibb-Patterson both split the $30,000 winner’s purse.

Ross and Kessy finished ninth in the women’s FIVB Grand Slam event.
