Shady Canyon Golf Club grants $27K in scholarships
Shady Canyon Golf Club granted $27,000 in educational scholarships to nine of its employees and their families.
The inaugural scholarship presentation took place July 23 in the Sycamore Room at Shady Canyon.
The Shady Canyon Golf Club Charitable Foundation was formed with the intent of providing an avenue for members to give back to the local community. This year, Shady Canyon General Manager Steve Buck introduced an employee educational scholarship program to the members as a way of supporting the club staff and their families.
Approximately 55 members and guests were in attendance including the Board of Directors, the Charitable Foundation committee members, scholarship recipients and their families.
Member response to the scholarship program has been overwhelming and led to the aforementioned nine scholarship grants.
Buck anticipates granting scholarships bi-annually in an effort to follow the recipient’s educational path and offer financial assistance accordingly.
The grant recipients were selected after a vetting process that included an application, personal interview and essay on the topic of each candidate’s career aspirations.
This was the first time staff scholarships were awarded. Shady Canyon expects the number of scholarships to grow each year.
