UCI student-athletes shine academically

The Big West Conference recognized 41 UC Irvine student-athletes on the 2014-15 Big West Academic All-Conference Team for winter and spring sports.

A total of 421 student-athletes from the nine member institutions were honored by the Big West in the sports of baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s outdoor track & field, and women’s water polo.

In order to be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes have to maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average, have attained a sophomore standing academically, and have competed in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests.

In addition to the UCI honorees, Corona del Mar High products Alec Adamson (UC Davis men’s tennis) and Kalika Slevcove (Cal State Fullerton women’s tennis) were recognized.

The UCI honorees follow:

Baseball: Evan Cassolato, Ryan Cooper, Matt Fielding, Sam Moore and Jonathan Munoz.

Men’s basketball: Dominique Dunning, John Ryan and Travis Souza.

Women’s basketball: Jenny Dee, Madison McKenney, Mokun Fajemisin and Raelyn Cheung-Sutton.

Men’s golf: Pete Fernandez, Jacob Shulze and Bryan Shin.

Men’s tennis: Justin Agbayani, Rafael Davidian, Jonathan Hammel and Jonathan Poon.

Women’s tennis: Kat Facey and Sarah Gong.

Men’s track & field: Shayon Falls, Julian Lujan, Riley Martin, Oliver Pham, Alex Tebbe and Cameron Vaca.

Women’s track & field: Marie Brashears, Ariel Cheng, Kylie Cordero, Lauren Ellison, Danika HItchcock, Marisa McGinnis, Dory Meraz, Marthie Ponty, Madelyn Sando, Aliya Shah, Courtney Sharar, Saniya Syed and Lily Trinh.

Women’s water polo: Emily Carlson.
