UC Irvine finished eighth in the 2012-13 Division I-AAA Athletic Directors Assn. All-Sports rankings of the 95 Division I schools that do not sponsor football.

UCI was once again the top Big West Conference school in the DI-AAA ADA standings. The Anteaters have finished in the top 10 in the Division I-AAA standings each of the last seven years, including first in 2007 and placing second three times in the last five years.

UCI accumulated 150 points with 100 coming from the men’s volleyball national title and 50 from women’s tennis, which advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championship.

UC Irvine finished 110th overall among the 294 NCAA Division I schools that scored postseason points, placing second among Big West Conference schools behind Hawaii, which sponsors football, at No. 107 with 155 points.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo was the next-closest Big West school at 152 with 108 points.

The University of Denver was the top Division I-AAA school for the fifth time in the last six years, finishing with 425.5 points and ranking No. 51 in the nation overall.

Stanford University recorded its 19th consecutive Division I Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup with 1,261.25 points.

The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in up to 20 sports — 10 women’s and 10 men’s.

Hanson with Swedes

Pernilla Hanson, who averaged 3.1 points and 3.1 rebounds per game as a senior reserve for the UC Irvine women’s basketball team last season, is playing for the Swedish national team at the World University Games through July 17 in Kazan, Russia.

Hanson, who has Swedish and U.S. citizenship, played two seasons for the Anteaters after transferring from Point Loma Nazarene.
