Davis on Lakers summer roster

Will Davis II, the standout UC Irvine forward, is on the Los Angeles Lakers’ Las Vegas summer league roster, the Lakers announced Thursday.

Davis closed out his college career by leading the Anteaters to their first NCAA Tournament appearance this past season.

The 6-foot-8 Davis was named first-team All-Big West Conference, after leading UCI in scoring and rebounding at 12.9 points and 7.1 boards per game. He is UCI’s career leader in blocked shots with 208 and he is just the third player in Big West history to reach 200 blocks.

He ranks second in the UCI annals with 852 career rebounds and is No. 8 in scoring (1,384).

Davis, the Big West Tournament MVP, is only the third player in UCI history to record at least 1,000 points and 800 boards. He joins Dave Baker (1971-75) and Tod Murphy (1982-86).

The Lakers’ summer squad will be coached by Mark Madsen, assisted by Larry Lewis and Thomas Scott, all members of Coach Byron Scott’s staff.

The team is set to start play on July 10 against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
