NHBA Bronco 11s capture championship
The Newport Harbor Baseball Assn. Bronco 11s All-Star team became the 2015 West Zone SoCal Central Region District champions after defeating Fullerton, 10-0, Monday night in Los Alamitos.
The NHBA All-Star team, coached by Scott Liolios, won three straight games in the District tournament, hosted by St. Hedwig.
The first game was a decisive 20-0 victory over the West Garden Grove All Stars. Carter Healy was the winning pitcher posting early shutout innings backed up by hot bats from Trent Liolios, Ethan Watson, Alex Garcia and Calder Overfelt.
The second game was closer with starting pitcher Will Purcell holding back St. Hedwig early. The game went to the seventh with St. Hedwig threatening, down two, with runners on the corners and two out. The game ended on a spectacular diving play by center fielder Brandon Kincaid, earning the NHBA All Star 11s a spot in the championship game Monday night.
The championship game saw the NHBA All Star 11s post runs every inning compiling 14 hits and scoring 10 runs en route to a 10-0 victory. Jackson Gilles had a multi-hit game along with contributions from Van Sidebotham, Bima Kirnbauer, Ryan Svendsen and Hudson Vaicek. By winning the Districts, the NHBA All-Star 11s earned a bye from Sectionals and will head straight to Regionals starting July 9.
