Estancia trio makes first team
Estancia High seniors Tyler Rios, Ben Beck and Steven Macias earned first-team All-Orange Coast League laurels in baseball.
The trio led the Eagles to the CIF Southern Section Division 5 playoffs and the program’s first postseason victory since 1992. Estancia defeated host Montebello, 7-1, in a wild-card game.
Rios, Beck and Macias are repeat first-team selections. They helped Estancia (17-10, 9-6 in league) finish third in league.
Rios, a shortstop and pitcher, plans to walk on at UC Riverside.
Rios, a four-year varsity starter, batted .402 with 17 runs batted in and seven doubles. He scored 21 runs and stole five bases.
As a pitcher, Rios went 4-3 with a 1.81 earned-run average. He struck out 37 in 50 innings and recorded a save.
Beck, a center fielder and pitcher, is bound for Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Ore.
Beck hit .360 with 12 RBIs, four triples and two doubles. He stole 25 bases and scored 23 runs. Coach Nate Goellrich said Beck’s four triples are an Estancia single-season school record and his 25 stolen bases rank second at the school.
Beck was 7-3 with a 1.19 ERA. He fanned 39 in 52 innings.
Macias, a third baseman and pitcher, hit .389 with 17 RBIs, eight doubles and one triple. He scored 17 runs and stole 11 bases.
Macias went 5-3 with a 2.19 ERA. He had 29 strikeouts in 48 innings.
Estancia seniors Alex Chairez and Levi Stillman made the second team.
No Costa Mesa player made the first or second team.
Laguna Beach senior Jackson Rees was the Orange Coast League MVP.
