Surber on second team for Sailors

Newport Harbor High sophomore Diana Surber is a second-team All-Sunset League honoree for softball.

Surber, a third baseman and shortstop, batted a team-best .312 for Newport Harbor. She tied for the team lead with seven runs batted in and had two doubles, a triple and a home run.

Surber also had 15 stolen bases, second on the team, in 17 attempts.

Newport Harbor, which finished 2-23 and 0-10 in league, had no first-team all-league selections.

Junior Jenna Holcomb of league champion Los Alamitos shared Sunset League MVP honors with senior Ali Wester of Edison. Los Alamitos senior Katya Duvall was named the league’s Pitcher of the Year, while freshman Allee Bunker of Huntington Beach earned Rookie of the Year honors.
