Estancia defends All-Sports Cup

Estancia High claimed the All-Sports Cup for the sixth time in as many years the competition has been in existence, beating archrival Costa Mesa for the title of the city’s best high school athletic program once again. Estancia won this school year’s trophy, 107.5-82.5.

Each school earns five points for every victory in boys’ and girls’ sporting events between the rivals and 2.5 points for a tie. In football, the winner earns 15 points. The Eagles won the Battle for the Bell rivalry, 28-3, helping the football team go undefeated in the Orange Coast League for the third time in five years.

The Estancia girls’ tennis, basketball and soccer teams finished with 10 points each, sweeping their two contests against Costa Mesa. The Estancia girls’ golf team scored 15 points, the same amount as the boys’ golf team, while the baseball team posted 10 points, the boys’ soccer team 7.5 and wrestling had five.

The biggest winners for Costa Mesa included the boys’ and girls’ volleyball teams. Each produced 10 points by respectively winning their two matches against the Eagles. The Costa Mesa boys’ water polo, boys’ cross-country, girls’ cross-country, girls’ water polo, boys’ swimming, girls’ swimming, boys’ track and field and girls’ track and field teams won their lone contest against Estancia, giving them five points each.

The boys’ basketball and softball teams from Costa Mesa and Estancia split their two-game series.
