All-League Softball: Marshall on first team for Sailors

Newport Harbor High senior softball player Hattie Marshall has earned first-team All-Sunset League honors for the second straight year.

Marshall, a pitcher, led the Sailors in most offensive categories like batting average (.452), home runs (five) and runs batted in (18). She also had a team-best six doubles for the Sailors (4-24, 1-9 in league).

Marshall, last year’s Newport-Mesa Player of the Year who is bound for Concordia University, had a 4.02 earned-run average for Newport Harbor. The team captain helped the Sailors defeat Fountain Valley, 6-5, on April 11, snapping a 53-game league losing streak dating back to 2007.

Newport Harbor senior third baseman Breanna Lopez earned second-team All-Sunset League honors.

Tera Blanco of league champion Marina was named Sunset League MVP, with Kristina Holcomb of Huntington Beach the league Rookie of the Year. Los Alamitos’ Rob Weil earned Coach of the Year accolades.

McKeown a first-team selection for CdM

Corona del Mar High sophomore Sydney McKeown has earned first-team All-Pacific Coast League accolades for softball.

McKeown, a lefty pitcher and outfielder, was a leader for CdM (1-21, 0-10 in league). She had a .368 batting average in league play.

CdM junior first baseman Amanda Penna earned second-team all-league honors.

Woodbridge senior Aryn Guzman was named PCL Most Valuable Player.
