Girls’ Lacrosse: Newport Harbor has four on first team
Newport Harbor senior Daniela Vazquez, juniors Rylie Siegfried and Jordan Rausch and sophomore Katie Hendrix all have earned first-team All-Century-Empire-Sunset League honors for girls’ lacrosse.
Vazquez, a co-captain and attacker, had a team-best 23 goals for the Sailors, who finished 9-8, 7-1 in league and earned a share of their first league title in program history with Esperanza.
Newport Harbor, seeded No. 15 in the U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section South Division playoffs, fell at No. 2 Foothill, 13-1, in the first round.
Vazquez also had 30 ground balls, which tied her for second on the Sailors.
Siegfried, also a co-captain and a midfielder, had 16 goals and six assists, the latter number tying her for first on the team. She also had 28 ground balls, fourth on the team, and a team-best 40 draw controls.
Siegfried also was a second-team All-Orange County selection, as chosen by the Orange County chapter of U.S. Lacrosse.
Rausch, a defender, led Newport Harbor with 31 ground balls. Hendrix, a midfielder, was second on Newport Harbor with 19 goals, tied for first in assists with six, and also second on the team with 30 ground balls and 22 draw controls.
Newport Harbor senior defenders Mia Bagiu and Erin O’Connor, as well as junior attacker Brittany McCoy and freshman midfielder Adena Rothbard, all earned second-team all-league status.
Elly Mosher of Esperanza earned league MVP honors, with Sophia Naumovski of El Dorado the league’s Most Valuable Goalie.
