Jesse Sapolu linemen tournament in Costa Mesa
Former NFL All-Pro Jesse Sapolu, in partnership with the Sapolu Youth Foundation and the City of Costa Mesa, will offer the Super Linemen 5-on-5 Tournament for high school football players on Saturday at Estancia High’s Jim Scott Stadium.
An estimated 300 high school football linemen from as many as 13 Orange County high schools, as well as schools from the Inland Empire and Los Angeles, are expected to compete in events that test their strength, athleticism and ability to work as a team.
Former NFL linemen Guy McIntyre and Junior Bryant, as well as Sapolu, will be on hand to provide instruction.
The event is free to participants and spectators and each athlete will receive complimentary lunch and a tournament T-shirt.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. with warm-up and instruction at 10 a.m., and the first rounds of competition at 11 a.m.
Lunch is scheduled at 1p.m., followed by the final rounds at 2 p.m. and the awards ceremony at 4 p.m.
The Sapolu Youth Foundation aims at giving young linemen the exposure and competition they otherwise wouldn’t receive at camps and passing leagues that primarily highlight the skill positions.
