Boys’ Lacrosse: CdM quartet awarded All-American honors

Corona del Mar High senior goalie Hoyt Crance, defender Hugh Crance, senior long-stick midfielder Brett Greenlee and senior midfielder Sherwin Gersten earned U.S. Lacrosse High School All-American honors.

The quartet led CdM (18-1) to the U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section South Division semifinals, before the Sea Kings suffered their first setback of the year, losing to St. Margaret’s, 8-6.

The Sea Kings, who outscored opponents, 248-60, finished ranked No. 2 in California by laxpower.com. In the last four years under Coach G.W. Mix, CdM has gone 75-6.

Hoyt Crance, who’s bound for Yale, finished with 88 saves and a goals-against average of 2.21. He averaged 4.65 saves per game and saved 68% of his shots.

Hugh Crance, a future University of Notre Dame player, collected 37 ground balls and forced 19 turnovers.

Greenlee, a University of Denver signee, finished with 37 ground balls and forced 24 turnovers.

Gersten recorded 27 goals and 14 assists, to go with 26 ground balls and four forced turnovers.

The Crance twins were also U.S. Lacrosse High School Academic All-Americans.

The four CdM players also made the All-Orange County first team.
