Girls’ Lacrosse: Mulvaney commits to Fresno State
Corona del Mar High sophomore Kennedy Mulvaney has committed to Fresno State for women’s lacrosse, she said Thursday.
Mulvaney said she liked the school and NCAA Division 1 program, as well as the coach, Jessica Giglio.
“I’ve gone to a bunch of camps since she’s been there,” Mulvaney said. “We’re really connected. She was a big part of it … I’m very excited.”
Mulvaney is just the second CdM girls’ lacrosse player to commit to an NCAA Division 1 program, after Molly Rovzar, who recently completed her sophomore season at Colorado.
Mulvaney was a key midfielder for the Sea Kings this season. She was second on CdM in goals (34), assists (25) and draw controls (63), and she led the team with 49 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers.
She helped No. 6-seeded CdM (11-7) advance to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section South Division playoffs, where they fell at No. 3 Los Alamitos, 11-9, in a hard-fought game May 7. Mulvaney and CdM teammate Jensen Coop, as well as Newport Harbor’s Katie Hendrix and Rylie Siegfried, also competed with the 2015 Girls OC U.S. Lacrosse National Team last weekend in Pennsylvania.
“We finished fourth in our division,” Mulvaney said. “We all did really well. I learned a lot playing against the other teams, and with the girls who I normally compete against during the season.”
Mulvaney, who also plays soccer for CdM as well as Slammers FC, is one of four Mulvaney sisters to play lacrosse for CdM. Kylie and Kendall have graduated and now attend Cal and the University of Denver, respectively, while Kennedy’s twin sister Katherine is a standout defender for CdM.
