High School swimming: Locals advance at CIF state prelims

FRESNO — Corona del Mar High senior Tyler Lin tied for first in qualifying for the 100-yard breaststroke in preliminaries Friday at Clovis West High.

Lin, the two-time CIF Southern Section Division 1 champion in the event, finished in 55.03 seconds. That tied the time of Hank Poppe of San Ramon Valley, to advance to Saturday’s championship final (top eight) in the event.

Lin also qualified for the championship final in the 200 individual medley (1 minute, 50.67 seconds).

Newport Harbor’s 200 freestyle relay of Dominik Folkner, Hayden Hemmens, Sawyer Farmer and Jason Trzeciecki qualified fifth in 1:25.44 and the same four also qualified fifth in the 400 free relay (3:06.36).

Hemmens (12th in the 200 free in 1:40.70) and Folkner (15th in the 100 free in 43.40) each qualified for the consolation finals (ninth through 16th).

CdM’s 200 medley relay team of Patrick Ong, Lin, Jon Polos and Tanner Roletter qualified 15th in 1:36.45.

The finals begin at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
