Youth Scene: Fryer Basketball Academy 11U Lions win tourney title

The 11-and-under Lions of Newport Beach-based Fryer Basketball Academy started the spring with an impressive 5-0 recored en route to the JW Basketball Spring Invitational championship in Garden Grove April 26.

The Lions matched up against other premier Southern California basketball clubs and outscored their opponents by an average of 14 points.

“It’s not that we won the games, it’s how the games were won,” said FBA Coach Brett Matsen, a former Corona del Mar High basketball player.

The Lions showed great poise and trust in one another as they moved the basketball well on offense and locked down opponents with tremendous team defense.

The FBA Lions are Ryan McManigal, Luke O’Neil, Scott Truninger, Quinn Welton, Ayden Ziegler, Brandon Kincaid, Hudson Bond, Jack De Signore, Michael Gurka and Van Sidebotham.
